Dr Carlo Breda

I am a Lecturer in Biomedical science in the Institute of Allied Health Sciences at De Monfort University. I grew up in Padova where I have also completed my BSc and MSc in Molecular Biology at Universita’ di Padova (University of Padua, Italy). As part of my MSc, I was awarded an Erasmus Scholarship which brought me to Leicester. Being fascinated by fruit flies and the circadian clock, I pursued a PhD in Charalambos Kyriacou‘s laboratory in the department of Genetics at the University of Leicester investigating how temperature influences the circadian clock. After this, I worked in Flaviano Giorgini’s lab as a research associate where I shifted my research interests to human neurodegenerative disorders such as Huntington’s (HD), Parkinson’s (PD) and Alzheimer’s (AD) diseases. Here, I have led several research projects aiming to discover and characterise genetic and pharmacological interventions for treating these disorders. I joined DMU in August 2019 where I contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within the School of Health and Allied Science and I have my own independent research lab.
